Essential Balance and Coordination Exercises For Seniors

Essential Balance and Coordination Exercises For Seniors. Have you ever been in a situation where you needed to turn around? Sounds silly, of course you do, like, everyday! Maybe you are in the supermarket looking for organic lettuce. You just can’t find the organic area at all. What do you do? Well, you most likely then lift your head to turn around and look for help. Wow, that suddenly made you dizzy! Momentarily there is an unbalanced sensation that quickly comes and goes. Maybe you slightly become off balance for a second.  What was that all about? Well as I always say, “just your lazy brain again”. Yes, gone are the days when you walked fast, had a job that involved turning and looking around every day. Your brain is just not used to this type of head movement anymore.

Head Turns

Hey, that is a good segue to this months great balance and coordination exercise for you to try.  This is a standard physical therapy balance exercise for seniors which involves head turns and also body turning, just like in the real world example above. Give it a try. You only need a standard kitchen chair to hold on to while performing the exercises. Yes, it is not cheating to hold on to a chair. Certainly, if it is your first experience with balance exercises, I would definitely hold on to a chair until your balance improves.
