by: Douglas Schrift Weight training for seniors is not only an easy thing to do, it also can dramatically improve your strength. One popular resistance machine for seniors is the “hydrolic resistance” machine. The handle bars are connected to a hydrolic piston which controls the resistance of the movement. These offer no-impact training for the pushing movement and pulling movement. The other is the cable machine which has no free weights but plates that are lifted by a cable. This would be my form of preferred exercise. The plates can be changed to many resistance levels simulating a real dumb bell, but offer safety and stability for seniors.Cable machines are more easily obtained. Check Sears and Sports authority for these.Good luck

  1. I had a stroke about 2 years ago I am ready for a exercise bike or something to make my legs and arms stronger. what would you suggest? my daughter thinks that would not help me but I think shes wrong. suggestions please.

  2. Tell me again the exercise equipment you had listed we can order from Walmart. I am unable to find your link. Thank you. (I just placed an order for your 4 DVD’s but need to again know the equipment needed available from Walmart)

    1. Resistance tube or band
These are easily obtained at your local big box store. Get one with handles if possible. Usually they are 48″ long
      Child’s ball
You may have one already. Get a small plastic ball you can hold in one hand. These work best.
      A yardstick or dowel
Find a yardstick or wooden dowel for the stretching exercises. We use a plastic hurdle bar in our videos.
