    If an American made movie dvd (made for the American and Canadian market) displays on your TV, then the dvd’s will work. If they don’t display you will need to get help to program your player and TV to display movies for the American market. The DVDs are locally produced in NTSC format and DO NOT have a regional security code like movies. USA and Canada TV’s need NTSC formatted signals for display. Outside the USA and Canada TV’s need PAL formatted signals. Most modern DVD players will play NTSC DVDs and PAL formatted dvd’s, and can convert NTSC format to PAL format for a PAL TV, and that includes many of the small, portable players. So will most newish TV sets,(2000+) though you may have to call up the menu system and select an NTSC option. Older TV’s outside the USA and Canada must have PAL formatted input, which needs to be converted by the dvd player or converter box from NTSC to PAL.

    You will need a kitchen chair, hand weights ( start with 2 pounds for women and 3 pounds for men), a bath towel, ankle weights ( optional for more of a challenge ), and a small throw pillow.

  • q-iconWho is this Chair Workout program made for?

    This is a very easy senior exercise program for general strengthening and flexibility. It can be performed by anyone who can follow directions on a TV screen. Most of the exercises are done while sitting. There are some leg exercises that are done standing holding on to another chair. If the senior has balance problems and needs supervision, then someone will need to provide assistance during the standing exercise segment.

  • q-iconWhy are the DVD's 30 minutes long?

    When I instruct a senior exercise class in person, they will run about 50 to 60 minutes. This is mostly because of the time, effort, and money involved in attending a formal exercise class. At home, 30 minutes is more appropriate. Not too long, and not too short. You can get a fine workout in 30 minutes. It allows you to plan your day much better. Each DVD has just the right amount of stretching and strengthening.

    When I made these DVDs, I realized seniors would watch them regularly. For this reason, I avoid excess conversation and just get right to work. I planned every exercise, so that you would get a well-rounded routine, all in 30 minutes.

  • q-iconThis is a chair program, why are there standing exercises?

    I call it a chair based exercise program. The majority of the exercises are performed sitting down safely in a chair. But to strengthen our legs, we need to stand. This is only on the leg strengthening DVD. For this part you will need a chair to sit on and a chair to hold on to directly in front of you. We take a break after every standing exercise. There is no walking or moving away from the chair. This is demonstrated in the videos. If you are afraid of falling when standing, make sure a family member is standing by to help.

  • q-iconWhat do I need to wear when exercising along with this program?

    I recommend using loose fitting clothing that is comfortable. Smooth bottom shoes so as not to trip on carpet.

  • q-iconI want to send this program to my parents. What should I do?

    This is a great program for your parents. First make sure they have an armless kitchen chair, a small hand weight of 2 or 3 pounds, a small throw pillow and bath towel. If you live nearby, I recommend exercising along with them the first time to make sure they are able to safely perform the exercises. Most are performed in the seated position, but some leg exercises do require a standing position. If you are worried about them falling, better to have a family member present just in case.
